GOD GIVEN TALENT

I would love to take the time to talk about the brand I'm responsible with starting, GOD GIVEN TALENT. Those who know me personally are familiar with how passionate I am about building this brand from the ground up.

Has it worked out as hoped? Certainly not. But I appreciate that it hasn't. Since embarking on this journey unofficially in 2016 and officially in 2017, I'm learning a whole heap about fashion design, fashion demand, business and myself. Trust me, you would not want to see the original logo and garment designs, they're just bad.

The biggest problem I facethat I'll love to dedicate this entire blog post to addressingis my failure to spread the company message:

"GOD GIVEN TALENT. It's literal meaning is talented in, for example, music, sport, etc. But it has a much deeper meaning. Simply put, God has given each and everyone of us a different set of talents... your talent separates you from everyone else, making you a unique individual. Derived from that statement, the goal is to create unique streetwear pieces and celebrate the individualism of people."

I failed to communicate this from the get-go. To the public, I'm just another young person starting just another streetwear brand. From my point of view, my brand is different from the other startups but, if I'm not making a big deal about the differences, people won't share the same point of view as me.

When getting into conversation with people unfamiliar with what I do (and eventually talking about what I do), a whole lot of questions pop up. Once and for all I'll answer the questions I know you have and dismiss those misconceptions.

"Why is a Zebra the logo?"
It represents uniqueness. The stripe pattern is unique for each zebra, like fingerprints for humans (no two are alike). Unique people, unique clothes. When you're informed about the G.G.T. mission, all the other elements of the brand make sense. It all correlates.

"GOD GIVEN TALENT... Is that like a Christian brand or something?"
I am a Christian and I'm not ashamed about that! But believe me, I'm not trying to startup a cringy brand that prints awful Christian puns on t-shirts. I, like you, appreciate good fashion and want to create great pieces of clothing for all people, no matter what ethnicity, beliefs or values. I want to celebrate the uniqueness in individuals, that's all I wish to promote. If you don't think that a brand with 'GOD' in the title will survive the harsh fashion world, I encourage you to research Jerry Lorenzo and his brand, Fear of God.

Another comment I often get: "GOD GIVEN TALENT means nothing if you don't work hard."
To an extent I agree... to an extent. I do believe there is an element of GOD GIVEN TALENT in everyone, and success is the measure of how well it is nurtured. If I can get people, using my brand as a platform, to once again believe in themselves then I've done my part. The greatest killer of world-class talent is comparison. I'll say it again and I'll say it till I die... the goal of the brand is for people to realise that they are unique, which means you should never compare yourself with others. People realising how great they already are means they're properly nurturing their unique set of talents, which translates to success.

I know I'm preaching but, I'm passionate to make change through fashion!

A lot of people have been asking me, what's next? Well, I'm taking a break from GOD GIVEN TALENT. Reasons include lack of time, lack of finance and lack of help. At the moment it's a one man show. So, once the foundations are properly established, I'm in the right financial position, and have a team of creatives (who share the same goal) around me, then I will re-launch GOD GIVEN TALENT in a big way! Are you ready?
